Kotabaru teqball athlete prepares for Asian Games in Japan - ANTARA News Kalimantan Selatan

Batulicin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - A teqball athlete from Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan Province, is preparing for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

"Previously Sahril, one of athletes from Kotabaru, had achieved proud achievement at national level, after winning a gold medal at the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov)," said Arham Syahban, Chairman of South Kalimantan chapter of All-Indonesia Teqball Sports Association (Potsi) in a statement received in Batulicin, Friday.

The championship was considered extremely fierce, as nearly every province fielded players of national-team caliber.

In fact, the South Kalimantan's pair, Sahrin and Wahyudin Baid, showed an outstanding performance, reached a semifinal and secured third place.

"It was a source of pride, considering that the national championship was the third event participated by the South Kalimantan All-Indonesia Teqball Sports Association (POTSI)," said Arhan.

He admitted that the strength map in the national championship this time is quite heavy, given the presence of numerous players with extensive national-level experience.

In fact, almost all provinces brought national team players. Yet, Kotabaru athletes were still able to compete, until they won the bronze medal in the men's double.

"For this achievement, Sahril, a student of STKIP Paris Barantai Kotabaru, caught direct attention of scout talent from Hungary and received a call to the national training camp (Pelatnas) in preparation for Asian Games in Japan," he said.

Arhan told that under the leadership of Kotabaru POTSI chairman, Pebe Supriyadi, the development of this sport has been remarkably rapid.

After previously won gold at the Porprov, now one of Kotabaru athletes will penetrate international sport stage.

"To undergo long-term preparation, Sahril has settled in Surabaya to focus all training stages at the national training camp," he concluded.
