KNMP trial produces 273 tons of fish worth over Rp11 billion - ANTARA News Jawa Timur

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia generated 273.6 tons of fishery products worth Rp11.10 billion (around US$620,000) from the operational trial of 65 villages under the Red and White Fishing Villages (KNMP) program as of Aug. 14, 2026.

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries said in a press release received in Jakarta on Monday that the 65 KNMPs, located in several regions across the country, had begun entering the operational phase following the completion of construction in April 2026.

During the initial project, communities produced a range of marine commodities such as tuna, squid, octopus, mackerel, pomfret, demersal species, and barramundi, marketing the yields to various regions.

Chair of the ministry’s KNMP Operational Task Force Victor Gustaaf Manoppo said the initial trial is intended to help fishing villages tap into business facilities, infrastructure, and equipment provided by the government under the program.

Through the initiative, villages receive cold storage facilities, fishing boats, refrigerated vehicles, processing machines, ice-making plants, supply kiosks, boat repair shops, and infrastructure for culinary zones.

He noted that fishing villages had generated Rp1.29 billion (around US$73,000) in profits from the use of business facilities and infrastructure.

Manoppo added that the ministry also used the trial project to help KNMPs identify business potential, opportunities, and partners in support of optimal operations.

To support business development, he continued, the ministry is working to connect KNMPs with state-owned and region-owned banks to provide them with favorable financing schemes.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s Director of Business Empowerment, Ali Rahmat Iman Santoso, said his team is committed to supporting cooperatives operating within KNMPs.

He explained that the support extends to business model development, market access, financing access, and guidance in obtaining business licenses.

Cooperative administrators also entitled to capacity-building initiatives focused on business administration, cold chain management, financial literacy, product diversification, and certification for fish processing and distribution, he added.

Santoso further said the ministry would facilitate partnerships between KNMP business units and fish processors, exporters, suppliers, distributors, aggregators, and other parties.

“Our assistance will continue until KNMP businesses are up and running,” he affirmed.
