Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has established a complaint channel for members of the public to submit complaints or feedback regarding the protection of unused mobile data.

The ministry’s Director of Digital Infrastructure Strategy and Policy, Denny Setiawan, said at a press conference in Jakarta on Saturday that the channel serves as an additional means for filing complaints.

“We are open to public feedback. In addition to the existing reporting channels provided by mobile operators, citizens are welcome to submit their complaints through the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure call center at 159,” he said.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is committed to overseeing the implementation of the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling, which requires telecommunications network and service providers to offer options that ensure customers’ unused data remains active and can still be used.

The government aims to ensure that mobile internet users receive maximum value from the services they have paid for.

“We will continue to monitor implementation on the ground and require operators to adjust their unused data protection mechanisms in line with the MK ruling,” Denny said.

In addition to direct oversight, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs requires the three mobile operators currently operating in Indonesia to submit monthly reports detailing their follow-up measures to comply with the ruling.

He noted that all three operators have generally expanded their data rollover options.

“However, we also found that for certain non-rollover plans, the protection is currently limited to sending notifications or alerts to customers,” he added, noting that such a measure is still inadequate.
